Programmable Thermostat Installed – Heat But No Ac?

Nov 22nd, 2009 by Thermo

My dad installed a programmable thermostat for me last fall. It worked great for heating but now it says the AC is on but it’s not. I asked this yesterday, someone suggested the switch on the furnace which I did but that was just the furnace fan. Any other solutions?

I had the same problem a while back. I accidentally miswired it. The heater worked fine but the AC didn’t turn on even thought the thermostat said it was on. Have your father check the terminal connections on the rear of the thermostat. Sometimes the labeling on the terminals can be misleading. My system has a control voltage of 12v DC so there was no damage done.

If there is an RC and RH terminal, they should be jumpered together with the red wire.
Just add another piece of wire to connect both terminals together.
