Wha Temp Should I Set My Programmable Thermostat At?

I live in rhode island and trying to save some cash.
i have set my thermostat to 68 when we are home and 60 when we are sleeping and at work..is that a good range? what do you have it set at?
is it better to keep a constant temp like 68 all day then have the furnace work to go from 60-68 all the time?
