This evening, a friend of mine changed out the thermostat on a large industrial electric range. In the process the process of removing and disposing of the old sensor tube, he broke it.
He chucked the thing in the garbage, and within a few minutes, it started to heat up and catch the garbage bag on fire! The tube was room temperature when he removed it.
