I think the default setting is 30 minutes; different times for different types of heating systems. I can hear a relay in the thermostat click when it turns on- it doesn’t turn off until the set point temperature is reached.
What is this time exactly? When the relay closes doesn’t the thermostat simply short the two wires connected to it together? Maybe the timers are for heating systems which use more than two wires?
A friend gave me an old fridge. Its an old fridge. It freeezes everything if if I turn it to minimum. It isn’t frost free. I’d like to fix it myself because I don’t have much money, but I also am not that mechanically minded. I need to understand what parts might not be working. Thanks for reading this.

My electric furnace has always worked and my husband had to mess with it while putting up new paneling in our hallway. Now it doesn’t kick on when I move the temperature thing on the outside of the little box. I assume that when I remove the cover I would have to move something on the inside and I need to know what to do to get it back on. Thanks!
Continue Reading »Have moved into a house where previous owner replaced simple mechanical type thermostat (with mercury bulb) with an electronic unit. Mechanical type obviously just closes a contact to complete the gas valve circuit and so get 24V across gas valve coil.
Obviously 2 wire electronic unit cannot do this because the unit needs to draw power for the electronics.
The new thermostat is giving unreliable operation, am thinking of replacing it with the old unit which I found and appears to be functional (checked with multimeter).
